Aamir Khan said in celebration of Laapataa Ladies winning the Oscar, I am very happy, I am very proud of Kiran Rao and my team. I would like to thank the selection committee of the Film Federation of India, which chose our film for the Oscar award. I thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for the love and support given to Laapataa Ladies. Thank you also to Jio and Netflix for working with us and becoming partners. Finally our hard work paid off and once again I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
Earlier, Lagan and Tare Zameen Par, produced by Aamir Khan’s production company, were also selected as India’s official entry for the Oscar Award, although Lagan has been the only Indian film that managed to make it to the top fifth position in the 74th Academy Awards. Laapataa Ladies is the third film of Aamir Khan’s home banner which has been selected as India’s official entry for the Oscar Award 2025.
Laapataa Ladies was released in theaters in March 2024 and became popular among the people after its release on Netflix in April. Laapataa Ladies is a story between two brides in rural India in 2001, where a small mistake during a train journey leads to the two getting replaced. The film is produced by Kiran’s Kindling Productions, Aamir Khan Productions and Jio Studios.
It stars Ravi Kishan and Chhaya Kadam and Geeta Agarwal Sharma along with Mitanshi Goyal, Pratibha Ranta and Sparsh Srivastava in lead roles.
